For over five hundred years, mankind has sought to expand its territories by invading neighbouring lands. The results were mixed but some nations gained vast amounts of land and power. They often chose to go even further and discover far flung continents too. Many of these expeditions found new trade opportunities and great wealth.
We have put together a resource to show, graphically, how the world changed through the expansion of the colonies, starting from the great explorers in 1492 and going through to the second World War and the present day. It shows how the great empires competed with each other to gain control of the most important trade routes and valuable lands. We provide details along the way so that you can understand how the colony timeline fits together.
